kW, Amps and Volts Converter
Convert kilowatts, amps and volts at 120, 240 and 347 volts single-phase and at 208 and 600 volts three-phase, with the power factor, for generator work.

An estimate from typical figures and the manufacturer's published numbers; a licensed electrician's load calculation on site decides.
How This Estimate Works
On a single-phase system, watts are volts times amps, amps are watts divided by volts, and kilowatts are watts divided by 1,000. On a three-phase system, watts are 1.732 times the line-to-line volts times the amps times the power factor, and amps are watts divided by 1.732 times the volts times the power factor. The apparent power in kVA is the kilowatts divided by the power factor.
These are the standard relations of electrical work. For example, 240 volts at 30 amps on a single-phase circuit is 7.2 kW, and 208 volts three-phase at 100 amps with a power factor of 1 is 36.03 kW. Three-phase 600 volt service is the common commercial service in Ontario, and 347 volts is its line-to-neutral voltage.
The power factor is 1.0 for a resistive load such as a heater, and lower for motors; the nameplate or the manufacturer's spec sheet gives it. A licensed electrician's load calculation or site visit decides what a circuit, a service or a generator needs.
