About Generac
Generac's residential product listings show air-cooled and liquid-cooled home standby generators, running on natural gas or propane, or on diesel. The listings also show the transfer switches that connect a standby generator to a home's electrical panel: automatic switches in a range of amperage ratings, some rated for service entrance use, and manual switches for a portable generator, HomeLink among them. The family pages below list each current model with the figures Generac publishes and link to Generac's own documents.
In Hamilton and Niagara, a standby generator usually draws on the house's natural gas service or on a propane tank, and a licensed gas fitter sizes and connects the gas line. The electrical side runs through a transfer switch, which keeps generator power from flowing back into the utility lines. Connecting a generator permanently to a home's wiring needs a notification of work filed with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), and ESA recommends hiring a licensed electrical contractor to install it.
