Champion air-cooled home standby generators

Champion's listing puts a small flag on each bundle for the country it is sold in, and every row in this table carries the Canadian flag. Its sizing page says Champion builds separate home standby models for Canada and for the United States. The eight bundles that show only the US flag are left out. The certifications column gives the mark each product page prints: cETLus on most rows, cETL on the two 14 kW aXis bundles and cULus on the two Select Circuit units.

Champion rates each unit twice, once on propane and once on natural gas, and the natural gas figure is lower. The 22 kW units drop to 19.8 kW on natural gas and the 26 kW units to 23.4 kW, so a house on the gas main should be sized from the natural gas column. Champion says the 24 V starting system works down to -22 °F, which is -30 °C. Only the Select Circuit pages add that no warming kit is needed, so the cold weather column reads Not published on the other rows.

The fact sheets list the aXis and fleX switches in 100 A and 200 A versions under a CSA service entrance rating. Fitting a switch like that between the meter and the panel usually means the utility has to disconnect the service while the work is done. Before the job, the electrical contractor files a notification of work with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), which then inspects the installation. A licensed gas fitter runs the gas line to the unit.
