Champion Generators

Champion's home standby listing shows air-cooled generators in three lines, Select Circuit, aXis and fleX, and each one is sold together with an automatic transfer switch. Its accessories listing adds manual transfer switches and power inlet boxes for connecting a portable generator. Champion says it builds different home standby models for Canada and for the United States, and its Canadian headquarters is in Burlington, Ontario. For a home in Hamilton or Niagara, a standby generator usually runs on the natural gas service or on a propane tank, and a licensed gas fitter sizes the gas line and makes the connection. On the electrical side, the transfer switch stops generator power from feeding back into the utility's lines. A permanent generator connection needs a notification of work filed with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), and ESA advises having a licensed electrical contractor do the installation.
